About Me

My name is Herb Addy, and I proudly served in the U.S. Army, completing three combat tours. Today, I'm an NRA and Maryland State Police Certified firearms instructor, but I wasn't always an expert. In fact, the first time I shot a rifle, my shots didn't just miss the target—they didn't even hit the frame. That experience wasn't just frustrating; it made me realize how a lack of knowledge can create uncertainty and even fear when handling firearms.

That moment stuck with me, and it's what inspired me to start GunBasics. I wanted to create a space where people—whether brand new to firearms or looking to refine their skills—could get the right training to feel comfortable, confident, and safe.
